Meet Volunteer Job Descriptions
The following positions will help you fulfill your volunteer requirements. Each family must work two sessions, where each session is approximately 2 hours. For larger meets, you are welcome to work more than one session. Please note: All volunteers must be at least 13 years old.
Set Up:
Early morning - prepare the pool area for a meet. Install the the blocks, set up tents & chairs in the heating/seating area, hang the backstroke flags, install lane lines, set up scoring table, ribbon table, and concessions tables, rope off diving well, and ensure pool is ready for swimmers to start their warm-ups.
Announcer (Experience Required): The announcer at a swim meet serves as the "voice" of the event, essential for keeping the meet running on time by calling events, heats, and lanes. They work closely with clerk of course to manage the schedule, announce swimmer names, call for swimmers to the heating/seating area, and can provide play-by-play commentary to create an engaging, high-energy atmosphere.
Clerk of Course (Experience Required): Checks in all swimmers to the heating and seating area. Works with Heaters/Seaters to organize swimmers into proper heats and lanes for all relays and individual events.
Heating & Seating:
Assemble swimmers to get ready for their event. At the direction of the clerk of course, volunteers will check in swimmers, and line the younger swimmers up behind lanes their proper lane before their heat.
Timers:
Operates stopwatch and records race time of the swimmers in each event and records time onto timing sheets.
Runner:
The runners take the timing sheets and official’s DQ slips after each event to the scoring table. Also runners give the timers and volunteers water and heat winner coupons during the meet.
Stroke & Turn Official: (Prior training required.)
Determine if the swimmers are using the correct strokes and turns, and disqualify, if necessary. Clear instructions on the DQ slip allowing the coach and swimmer to remedy the infraction at the next meet.
Ribbons:
Attach the swimmers’ race results label to the back of the proper place ribbons following each event. The ribbons are sorted by team.
Concessions:
Sell concessions during the meet.
Safety Monitor: Ensures swimmers and spectators are being safe in the pool area.
Clean Up/Break Down
Break down tents, put away blocks, chairs, tables, and equipment. Help clean up the pool area immediately following the meet so Village Green Members can use their pool.
